The 5-foot-9 receiver burst onto the scene for Alabama State this season with 51 catches for 1,167 yards and 9 touchdowns, averaging 22.88 yards per catch. He redshirted in 2023 and appeared in 10 games in 2024 before his breakout campaign in 2025, in which he earned HCU All-American honors.
What Alabama State transfer receiver Jalen Jones brings to Texas Tech football
The Red Raiders have lost more than half of its receiving room due to graduations and outgoing transfers. Jones fills a need for depth, speed and versatility.
As of Jan. 4, only Coy Eakin and Micah Hudson are expected back off of Tech's two-deep for the Orange Bowl, so Jones gives the Red Raiders an option to look at as a slot receiver, the position Eakin occupied this season. While Jones did not have any kick returns with the Hornets, Texas Tech could look to utilize him in that area as well.
