The Detroit Tigers claimed outfielder James Outman off of waivers from the Minnesota Twins following their 11-0 win over Minnesota on Thursday.
Outman debuted for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022 and put up a sterling rookie season in 2023, slashing .248/.353/.437 with 23 home runs and 16 stolen bases over 151 games. He has yet to put up positive value in three seasons after his breakout season, however, hitting a meager .144 in 334 at-bats since the start of 2024.

To make room for him on the roster, the Tigers placed shortstop Javier Báez on the 60-day IL. Báez has been out with a high ankle sprain since April 28, and was shut down from baseball activities on June 2 as his recovery hit a snag.

With the Tigers missing center fielder Parker Meadows , Outman could serve as outfield depth on the major league squad. Statcast lists him with positive defensive value (albeit over a small sample in 2026).
Tigers trade for Jacob Waguespack
The Tigers traded for Milwaukee Brewers minor league right-handed pitcher Jacob Waguespack on Wednesday. The Brewers will receive either a player to be named later or cash considerations in the exchange.

Waguespack, 32, made his major league debut in 2019 for the Toronto Blue Jays , pitching to a 4.38 ERA over 78 innings. He pitched for the Orix Buffaloes of Japan's NPB from 2022-23 before returning to MLB with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2024 with four games pitched.

He carries a 5.11 ERA and 5-5 record for his MLB career over 105⅔ innings in 31 appearances (14 starts).
Waguespack features a four-pitch mix, leaning heavily on a four-seam fastball and cutter for 74% of his offerings in 2024 according to Statcast but occasionally mixing in a curveball and changeup.
He has a 1.66 ERA over 21⅔ innings for Triple-A Nashville in 2026, featuring a high strikeout rate (13.7 per nine innings) and also a high walk rake (6.2 per nine innings), with 33 Ks and 15 walks.
