Michigan Wolverines (3-2) tight end Zack Marshall got into trouble after his alleged comments in a group chat were leaked on Monday. Marshall criticized offensive coordinator Jason Beck following the Wolverines' 20-14 loss to Minnesota (4-1).
The tight end apologized, saying he regretted the comments. On3's J.D. PicKell, however, noticed a different angle in the Michigan drama.
"I'm not a fan of the optics of the Michigan groupchat texts," he wrote
on X. "But airing out your buddy and leaking those screenshots for a half-slice of clout is an all-time pathetic move."
In the comments on his post, someone pointed out that a fan in the group chat leaked the messages.
"It could have been his own mother. Truly pathetic move," PicKell responded
.
The Wolverines suffered their second straight loss against Minnesota after falling 19-20 to the Iowa Hawkeyes (4-0) the previous week. In his apology, Zack Marshall stated that he was frustrated after the loss, which led him to make "inappropriate comments" in the group chat.
"Last weekend, in the hours after we lost, I made some inappropriate comments that I regret," he wrote. "This game is won and lost as a team, and I pointed fingers instead of taking accountability. I let my frustrations speak for me in an emotional moment."
"I apologize to my teammates and coaches for the unnecessary drama this has caused. I will always be proud to represent Michigan and will continue to give everything I have for this program. I love Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan and Team 147."
Michigan will have a bye week before facing the Penn State Nittany Lions on October 17, giving the team time to address its internal issues.

Kyle Whittingham on Michigan's Offense
Other than the 52-17 win over the UTEP Miners, Michigan's offense hasn't exploded this season. During an appearance on Inside Michigan Football, Kyle Whittingham said that while there isn't much to change on defense, Michigan's offense has issues the team needs to address.
"Offensively, we got a long way to go," he said
, per SI. "I'm telling you right now, there's a lot of issues. And we got to address them. It's just a situation of, again, figuring out what have we done well so far? What do we need to just cast off and not try to do anymore?"
Michigan's defense is ranked No. 6 in the country, while its offense ranks No. 122.
