Tennessee Titans cornerback Nazeeh Johnson shed light on the circumstances surrounding his six-game suspension after the NFL disciplined several players across the league Friday .
Johnson told Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk in a statement that he tested positive for a banned substance contained in fertility medication he was taking while trying to start a family with his wife.
"My wife and I were trying to conceive a child," Johnson wrote. "We found out that I was infertile, and I took a fertility medication that was helping me try to conceive a baby. I was not aware that there was a substance in the medication that was on the banned list, and I tested positive for a PED."

Johnson used his situation to warn other NFL players about taking medications without first receiving league approval.
"Lesson to all NFL players and new players coming into the league: do not put anything in your body without following the process and getting approval beforehand."

Johnson also revealed that he and his wife recently lost their baby, adding another difficult element to the situation.
"We lost our baby a few weeks ago, and this has been an incredibly difficult time for my wife and me. Fortunately, we have nine good eggs left, so we're holding on to hope that we'll be able to grow our family."
Because NFL suspensions are unpaid, Johnson is set to forfeit one-third of his salary during the six-game absence, costing him slightly more than $350,000.
Johnson was one of several players disciplined by the league Friday. Washington Commanders defensive end Dorance Armstrong received a one-game suspension for violating the personal conduct policy, while Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis was suspended three games for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
Johnson received the longest suspension of the three, leaving the Titans without the veteran cornerback for the first six games of the 2026 regular season.
