Veteran outfielder Tommy Pham signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets before the 2026 campaign. Pham began the season at Triple-A but was later promoted to the big league roster. He was designated for assignment on Monday, however. According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Pham cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A on Wednesday. Pham elected free agency instead of accepting the Triple-A assignment, DiComo reports.
The 38-year-old went 0-13 in nine games played with the Mets this season. With that being said, he is a veteran outfielder who could receive interest in MLB free agency.
Pham spent the 2025 season in Pittsburgh with the Pirates. He ended up recording a slash line of .245/.330/.370 with 10 home runs in 120 games played.
The right-handed hitting outfielder is still more than capable of making a significant impact at the big league level. It would not be surprising to see him sign with a new ball club sooner rather than later. Updates on Tommy Pham 's free agency will be provided as they are made available.
The Mets, meanwhile, have struggled throughout the 2026 MLB season. However, they were able to defeat the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night by a final score of 8-0. New York is hoping to turn the season around as soon as possible. Of course, accomplishing that feat will be much easier said than done for the 10-19 Mets.
New York will look to win a second consecutive game against the Nationals on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM EST in New York.
