Top 2027 recruit Charis Rainey has committed to USC , she told Rivals. The 6-0 guard from Los Angeles (CA) chose the hometown Trojans over Oregon , Arkansas , Alabama and Illinois .
"I really just wanted to stay home," Rainey told Rivals. "I love how they're a winning program and people are going there to win, not just to shine or make themselves look good. Everybody wants to win and that's a big thing for me. I want to win. I'm connected to LA. It's my home."
Her relationships with the coaching staff are strong.
"Coach Willnett [Crockett] goes to my church, so that was the craziest thing," she said. "And then Coach Lindsay [Gottlieb], her son goes to some of the basketball camps at my high school. They live super close to my high school, so we see them a lot. It was really just like okay, this is comfortable, this is familiar. I can rock with this."
While her arrival is still a year away, there's a lot to look forward to.
"Experience," she said. Watching them practice this past summer, they literally run the same stuff that Sports Academy runs. So I'm like, okay, I could just hop in and just do some of the similar things and offensive principles we did there. I love the maturity level…Jazzy [Davidson] will be a junior, Saniyah [Hall] will be a sophomore. That's going to be very important because you want to play with experienced players who know what they're doing."
