Red Sox top positional prospect Franklin Arias crushed his sixth home run in his past seven games on Thursday.
He also doubled in Double-A Portland’s 5-4 win over Hartford.
The 20-year-old shortstop is 20 for 45 (.444) with a .519 on-base percentage, .933 slugging percentage, 1.452 OPS, six home runs, four doubles, 15 RBIs and 12 runs in 13 games for the Sea Dogs. He has five walks compared to four strikeouts.
He had hit just 18 home runs in 240 minor league games entering this season. But he added 10 pounds in the offseason and worked on his point of contact.
Baseball America ranks Arias Boston ’s No. 2 prospect. He’s ranked No. 46 on Baseball America’s Top 100 list .
This significant increase in his power is unexpected. Baseball America graded his power 40 (below average) entering this season on its 20-80 grading scale. His BA scouting report noted , “He’s also an all-fields hitter, resulting in a clear hit-over-power profile, but with exit velocities topping out around 110 mph, he does have sneaky pop and the chance to add more if he gets stronger.”
