Crazy match in Turin, with Inter throwing away a two-goal lead and allowing the hosts back into the game. The clash ended 2-2, with Toro able to turn it around thanks to Simeone’s brilliant goal and then, in the 77th minute, Vlasic’s penalty awarded after a very long review for a Carlos Augusto handball.
The Nerazzurri had taken the lead first through Thuram , from a Dimarco assist, and then shortly after the hour mark through Bisseck, again from an assist by the left wing-back, now the sole record holder with 18 assists (according to the League) this season. First Simeone and then Vlasic set the final score.
With the draw against Torino , Inter picked up 1 of the 4 points needed to win the Scudetto. The Nerazzurri now need 3 more points to be crowned Champions of Italy. To win the title, they will have to beat Parma at home and take the 3 points they still need, without having to wait for results elsewhere.
Inter could also be crowned champions without playing if Milan were to lose, as well as Napoli at Como , in the next round, since the Azzurri will play on Saturday at 6 p.m. and Milan on Sunday at 3 p.m. In the event of a double KO, the Nerazzurri would be champions from the couch.
76TH MINUTE- A very long check in the 76th minute for a Carlos Augusto handball on a close-range header by Duvan Zapata. Mariani is called to the monitor and, after a very lengthy review, decides to award a penalty to Toro.
From the spot, Vlasic is flawless: right-footed shot into the top corner and the match is level!
Below is Luca Marelli’s comment.
"We showed the incident to our technicians. The right arm, the one the ball hits, is in an irregular position. It’s true that it’s close, but it was outside the body’s silhouette. That’s why they decided it was not a natural position"".
70TH MINUTE- Torino get back into the match with a brilliant play by Simeone. First the heel flick for Ilkhan and then, face-to-face with Sommer , the chip to beat the Swiss keeper. Tenth league goal, fifth different year in double figures for Cholito, who confirms himself as a true center-forward.
61ST MINUTE- Inter doubled their lead on the hour mark. Corner by Federico Dimarco and a towering header from Yann Bisseck , who rose above everyone. Assist number 18 for Dimarco, alien!
46TH MINUTE- Straight from the restart, Inter nearly made it 2-0. A loose ball falls to Dimarco, who pounces on it and strikes it brilliantly with the outside of his foot, only to be denied by a superb save from Paleari. On the rebound, Ebosse is crucial in getting there ahead of Darmian , who was ready to score.
On this last intervention, live it looked like there might have been some doubt over the contact, but Luca Marelli clarified the situation.
"Darmian hinted at a protest over the contact with Ebosse, but Ebosse got the ball with the sole of his boot. Then the contact with Darmian - if there was any - is part of the natural dynamics of the play"
23RD MINUTE- After a shaky start, Inter took the lead through their usual combination. A well-worked move ends at Dimarco’s feet, he crosses with his usual magical left foot and finds Marcus Thuram’s head, who from close range beats Paleari and scores his 50th goal for the Nerazzurri.
A historic assist record for Dimarco, who surpasses Papu Gomez’s total (in 2019/2020) and moves to 17 assists according to the League’s calculations. The celebration said it all: Thuram asked for and got the chance to clean Dimarco’s boot, recreating the celebration, also in an Inter shirt, made famous by Moriero and Ronaldo .
12TH MINUTE- Inter appealed for a Coco handball in the penalty area. The referee and VAR, however, did not punish the Torino defender’s arm contact, and Luca Marelli quickly provided the explanation.
"There was contact with Coco’s arm, but it was a rebound: it first hit his thigh and then his arm. Very quick check"
6TH MINUTE- Inter created the first chance of the match from a set piece. Cross from Sucic and the ball into the box for Akanji, who leaps very high and goes close with a header, sending it just wide.
7TH MINUTE- Torino responded immediately, pressing high and winning the ball back near the Nerazzurri area. The ball falls to Coco, who from an excellent position fires way over.
Before the match, Marotta spoke to DAZN microphones about Rocchi’s resignation and the refereeing case: "Inter does not have a list of referees we like or dislike, absolutely not. Last year we had decisions go against us, one of them decisive for the final result, among other things. And that’s objective. We are certain of our fairness and our peace of mind"
Here are Marotta’s full comments and the opinion of Rocchi’s lawyers and AVAR Di Vuolo
TORINO (3-4-1-2): Paleari; Coco, Ismajli, Ebosse; Lazaro, Ilkhan, Gineitis , Obrador; Vlasic; Adams, Simeone.
INTER (3-5-2): Sommer; Bisseck, Akanji, Carlos Augusto; Darmian, Barella , Zielinski , Sucic, Dimarco; Bonny , Thuram.
Lautaro has been called up but will not be risked, so that he can be at 100% for the end of the season.
With Inter’s win and the Milan- Juve result still pending, Inter will have to wait - at the very least - until next week to celebrate the Scudetto.
There are several scenarios in which the Nerazzurri could win Serie A on the next matchday, even without playing:
Inter become champions without playing (Sunday, May 3): if Napoli lose against Como (and possibly Milan too depending on the result against Juve)
If Inter win in Turin today and beat Parma (Sunday, May 3), they are champions regardless of other results
If Inter draw in Turin today, the Nerazzurri will be champions only if Napoli lose to Como (and possibly Milan also lose to Sassuolo , depending on the result against Juve)
If Inter lose in Turin today, Napoli lose against Como (or possibly Milan against Sassuolo, depending on the result against Juve) and the Nerazzurri get at least one point against Parma.
