The Toronto Tempo are coming off an 88-78 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday. That defeat marked their eighth loss in nine August games.
The Tempo, who were already previously eliminated from playoff contention , dropped to 11-26. They are currently 13th in the standings in their inaugural WNBA season.
Toronto will be back in action on Wednesday night, facing the Seattle Storm in a road matchup at Climate Pledge Arena. However, the Tempo will be without starter Julie Allemand , who has left the team for international duty.
Tempo beat reporter Chelsea Leite of TSN Sports reported on Tuesday that the team has temporarily suspended Allemand's contract. Leite noted that Allemand has left the team to join the Belgian national squad ahead of the FIBA Women's World Cup in Berlin, Germany.
The World Cup will take place from Sept. 4 to 13. However, with Allemand already linking up with Belgium more than a week before the tournament, she will miss the Tempo's next three games.
Toronto will be without one of its key starters on Wednesday against the Storm. Allemand will also miss Friday's matchup against the Aces and Saturday's road game against the Phoenix Mercury .
Allemand is currently averaging 6.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.2 triples in 28.7 minutes per game. The 5-foot-8 guard has started 27 times in 29 appearances this season.
The WNBA will officially go on break for the World Cup from Aug. 31 to Sept. 17. Allemand is expected to return to the team after the tournament. Her next chance to suit up for Toronto will be on Sept. 18 against the Indiana Fever .
