The Minnesota Twins are retooling their roster during this MLB postseason push. And not just limited to welcoming back Bryon Buxton from the injured list . Minnesota signed former MLB All-Star pitcher Germàn Màrquez Thursday, right before the Field of Dreams game.
But what type of contract did Màrquez receive? Twins insider Dan Hayes revealed that the pitcher agreed to a minor league deal.
Màrquez arrives to the Twins franchise as a 31-year-old veteran pitcher. He brings a 2021 appearance in the MLB All-Star game in tow, which he achieved during his run with the Colorado Rockies .

He's delivered 1,105 strikeouts in his career. Marquez also owns a 72-74 overall record on the hill.
His arrival also comes amid one red hot pitching rumor. Jose Soriano of the Toronto Blue Jays drew reported interest in the Twins before the MLB Trade Deadline. Soriano also became linked to Chicago Cubs . The Jays listened to offers according to baseball insiders Mitch Bannon and Dan Hayes of The Athletic, but ultimately never intervened.
Now Marquez earns his chance to work his way up the roster in Minnesota. Only this time as a late addition and during this late push for the playoffs.
So Minnesota sits under the .500 mark at 60-62. But are only three games back from first place in the American League Central from division leader the Chicago White Sox . The Detroit Tigers hold down the second place spot with their 60-61 mark while the Sox own the lone record above .500 at 62-58.
The Twins have lost six of their last 10 games, though, and are aiming to reignite a winning roll here.
