Tyler Dibling started and impressed as Everton beat Newcastle United 3-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Thursday.
Goals from James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Thierno Barry completed a superb night for the Toffees, who will now play League Two-side Fleetwood Town for a place in the semi-final.
Dibling has seen a vast improvement in his minutes in recent weeks, after what was an incredibly difficult opening season following his £40million move from Southampton in 2025.
The 20-year-old made just 17 appearances across all competitions, forced to sit on the bench throughout the campaign despite always being available.
Recent impressive performances have managed to earn the England youth international starts in the Carabao Cup and appearances off the bench in the Premier League, but David Moyes still appears uncertain.
Dibling proved to the Scot yet again on Thursday that he is ready for a bigger role, and that he could well become a seriously good player if trusted.
Tyler Dibling makes his point vs Newcastle
Everton were clearly convinced of Dibling's potential when they spent £40m to bring him to Merseyside.
The winger had shown flashes of brilliance at Southampton, and it was hoped that his talent would be nurtured under Moyes.
After a slow first season, that talent is beginning to grow, and there may never be a better time to hand Dibling a consistent place in the starting XI.
Summer arrival Brennan Johnson has been Moyes' first choice on the right so far this season, but even in just brief appearances, Dibling has shown far more of an ability to make an impact.
The 20-year-old started on Thursday and coped well against one of the Premier League's best left-backs in Lewis Hall.
He created a chance, took a shot and completed two successful dribbles - the joint-most of anybody on the pitch.
Dibling was fouled three times, won five duels and made a block, a clearance, an interception and three recoveries, proving to Moyes that he can do the defensive work as well.
It is over to the Scot now to reward him with a start at Newcastle on Monday - Everton may never look back if he does so.
Forget early sale, Everton have high hopes for Tyler Dibling - Insider David Moyes has run out of excuses
Jack Grealish was missing from the squad on Thursday due to a disciplinary breach, and it is unclear if he will return on Monday.
Tyrique George started on the left and could keep his position if his teammate is still unavailable, leaving Moyes with a choice on the other wing.
With Iliman Ndiaye in the position last season, Dibling was always going to struggle for regular minutes.
But Johnson is no Ndiaye - there is no excuse to leave the 20-year-old out of the team any longer.
