Four-star recruit and Long Beach Poly High School cornerback Juju Watson has become the latest in a growing list of talent that will play at the UCLA Bruins . Head coach Bob Chesney, who brings with him almost three decades of coaching experience, has had an immediate impact on the program’s recruitment.
Johnson chose the Bruins over a range of programs , including Miami, Oklahoma and Cal, per a post on X by Hayes Fawcett.
“Less turn da city up,” he said in a statement.
Johnson is a four-star prospect in the 2027 class. His commitment contributes to UCLA’s current No. 4-ranked 2027 recruiting class nationally, placing them behind only Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and USC.
The Bruins’ 2026 class ranked No. 64 nationally and No. 16 in the Big Ten. However, with the latest move, UCLA is now trending toward its first top-25 recruiting class since 2018.
Johnson remains a high-upside prospect despite missing his entire junior season due to a lower leg injury. Prior to the injury, he was considered a consensus top-50 national recruit.
He is now reported to be back to full speed and is expected to participate fully in upcoming spring activities at Long Beach Poly. He has recorded 10.34 seconds in the 100m and 21.04 seconds in the 200m, along with a wingspan close to 78 inches, despite being listed at less than 6 feet and 170 pounds.
“I’m very excited to be a Bruin… they’re building something special and I want to be a part of that. I was there for about five or six practices… sometimes I would visit just to hang out… this is home for me. Coach Whit is super cool… it doesn’t even feel like I’m talking with a coach, it feels like I’m talking with a friend. I love his energy… he’s one of the brightest head coaches I’ve been around… I believe in him,” he said.
Johnson attends Long Beach Poly High School, located approximately 15 miles from UCLA, and made five to six visits to campus, including attending multiple practices. His recruitment was led by defensive backs coach Eddie Whitley, whom the player thanked in the statement.
