The North Carolina Tar Heels earned a hard-fought 24-20 victory over the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday, claiming the Victory Bell after surviving a late comeback attempt at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham.

Head coach Bill Belichick's Tar Heels jumped out to an early lead and looked firmly in control before Duke fought its way back into the game. However, North Carolina made enough plays down the stretch to secure the rivalry victory and give its season another major boost. The win also continued the momentum from UNC's upset of Pittsburgh the previous week.
UNC Starts Fast Behind Billy Edwards Jr.
North Carolina wasted little time establishing control. Quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. helped lead the Tar Heels down the field on their opening possession, setting up a 28-yard field goal to give UNC a 3-0 advantage.
The Tar Heels added another score when Edwards connected with Jordan Shipp for a five-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 10-0. North Carolina's defense also delivered early, blocking a Duke punt and giving the visitors another opportunity to capitalize.

Running back Demon June helped UNC extend its advantage in the second quarter with a rushing touchdown, putting the Tar Heels ahead 17-0.
Duke, coached by Manny Diaz, eventually responded with a touchdown of its own before halftime. The Blue Devils had work to do, but the score gave them a chance to make the rivalry interesting in the second half.
Duke Battles Back Into the Game
Quarterback Walker Eget and the Blue Devils refused to go away quietly. After struggling to move the ball early, Duke gradually found opportunities to cut into North Carolina's advantage.
The Blue Devils improved their offensive production and made the game increasingly uncomfortable for the Tar Heels. Duke's defense also found ways to slow UNC down, preventing Belichick's team from building on its early lead.

The momentum shift put pressure on North Carolina to respond. What had looked like a potential comfortable victory turned into a tense rivalry battle, with Duke giving itself a legitimate opportunity to steal the win.
Belichick's Tar Heels Finish the Job
North Carolina ultimately did enough in the fourth quarter to hold on for the 24-20 victory. The Tar Heels' ability to withstand Duke's comeback proved crucial in a rivalry where momentum can change quickly.
For Belichick, the result provides another encouraging step in his effort to build the UNC program. Edwards and the offense delivered early, while the team showed resilience when Duke threatened to take control.

Duke will be disappointed after falling behind by 17 points, then coming close to completing the comeback. Diaz's team showed fight, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
The Victory Bell belongs to North Carolina, and the Tar Heels leave Durham with a rivalry win that could provide valuable momentum for the remainder of the season.
