The University of Vermont athletics department has provided some clarity on why Catamount senior point guard Catherine Gilwee has missed the last three games for the women's basketball team .
In an email to local media, an athletic department spokesperson said Gilwee suffered an undisclosed injury and is considered "day-to-day" on Tuesday, Dec. 16. The statement also said that the injury is not season-ending so fans can expect to see the Shelburne, Vermont native back on the court this season.
During the Catamounts' Dec. 14 game at Sacred Heart, Gilwee was on the bench, dressed in street clothes with a boot on her left foot. In the game against Holy Cross on Dec. 16, Gilwee appeared to be back in sneakers and out of the boot.
Vermont (9-4) saw its three-game win streak halted in the 46-45 defeat at Holy Cross .
The America East rookie of the year in 2021-22, Gilwee missed the entire 2023-24 basketball season while recovering from a torn ACL. In 10 games this season, the senior is averaging 5.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
Last winter, Gilwee played in 34 games, averaging 8.1 points and 3.8 assists per game for the Catamounts, who won the America East tournament title for the second time in three seasons.
The Catamounts have two more nonconference games prior to the start of league play. They play at Drexel on Dec. 20 and then host Dartmouth on Dec. 28.
