Barcelona have identified Ajax defender Youri Baas as a potential January signing as sporting director Deco explores options to strengthen Hansi Flick's defence.
According to SPORT , the 23-year-old has emerged as a serious candidate because of his ability to operate both as a centre-back and left-back, a versatility highly valued by Barcelona's recruitment department.
The Dutch defender is attracting interest from Premier League and Bundesliga clubs, meaning Barcelona could face competition if they decide to pursue a move.
However, it is crucial to remember that the club's financial limitations remain a significant obstacle to strengthening the squad during the winter transfer window.

The Ajax defender has developed through the Dutch club's youth system after joining from Excelsior in 2018 and has established himself in the first team.
His physical profile and technical qualities are particularly attractive to Barcelona, who want a defender capable of providing cover at both centre-back and left-back.
The club's recruitment team reportedly considers him a player who fits their preferred profile.
Notably, Baas has a contract until 2028, meaning Barcelona would need to negotiate a transfer with Ajax.
Despite their interest, Barcelona's financial situation could restrict their options, particularly if departures do not generate additional income.

Operating under salary limit restrictions would make negotiations considerably more complicated, forcing Deco to consider financially realistic opportunities rather than pursuing every available target.
At the same time, competition from England and Germany could further complicate matters, especially if interested clubs are better positioned to meet Ajax's demands.
Notably, Baas is not the only type of defender Barcelona are considering, with the club also exploring signing an experienced centre-back capable of making an immediate impact.
This second profile would bring leadership, experience and greater authority to a relatively young defensive department, and thus address the experience gap that Pau Cubarsi is still developing.
