A fluke special teams play is how the Vikings lost a key piece of their offense for likely the remainder of the 2026 regular season.
Tight end Josh Oliver is one of the NFL's best blockers at his position. Listed at 6'5″ and 264 pounds, he is a force in the run game who is also capable of briefly holding up in pass protection against weak side edge rushers if needed. On top of that, he's caught 62 passes for 677 yards and 9 touchdowns in 50 games since joining the Vikings in 2023.
Late in last Sunday's win over the Buccaneers, the Vikings lost Oliver to a torn biceps that may end his season. Making the injury even a bit more unfortunate is the fluky nature of when and how it happened. It didn't occur while he was straining on a block or battling with a safety for a pass. Oliver was blocking on a 56-yard Will Reichard field goal with 3 minutes left and stuck out his right arm to slow down Tampa Bay's Zyon McCollum as he raced around the edge to attempt a block.
