BOSTON — Viktor Arvidsson appears to be back to his old self.
The Bruins forward scored the lone goal in Boston’s 1-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday night.
Arvidsson missed time on November with a lower-body injury that landed him on injured reserve. It took Arvidsson a little bit to find his legs once he returned in early December.
He’s now playing more like the “weasel” Marco Sturm called him during training camp.
“Knowing Arvy for a long time now, what we’re seeing right now, that’s the Arvy I know,” Sturm said. “Especially after this injury when he came back, even for a few weeks, he was not the same. So I’m glad he found his game (again). He’s hard to play against, he goes to the tough areas, even with his size, but that makes him so good. And I think since, I don’t know how many games now, he’s doing that again, so I know he’s back.”
Arvidsson’s goal came after he won a puck battle in front of Stuart Skinner . His effort was rewarded as he snuck it past the Penguins goalie.
“I was trying to get it to my stick and back towards the net and luckily it went in,” Arvidsson said. “I’m just trying to be a disturbance in front of the net, trying to win battles, set up my teammates for chances, too. I thrive in those kinds of games.
“I think I was really playing well before my injury and then got hurt,” he later added. “And I think I came back to that kind of level and like I said, my legs are there and my battle level is there. So I think that’s a huge part of it, too. And our line is clicking and it’s been really effective all year.”
Arvidsson’s goal helped put the Bruins ahead of the Penguins in the Eastern Conference standings by a point.
“It’s hard to make the playoffs and it’s been really hard last few years to make the playoffs,” he said. “And I think you saw last year it was coming down, especially in the East, to the last few games. I think it’s not going to be any different this year. So a lot of teams are still in the race, and it’s about this time before the (Olympic) break, it’s going to show who’s really meant for the playoffs.”
