Warriors' Draymond Green breaks silence on declining player option amid LeBron James, AD rumors appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The Golden State Warriors are in a weird place. They are not nearly good enough to contend in the stacked Western Conference, but they are also too talented to fail miserably. The only way to make some noise would be via blockbuster trades.
Recent rumors suggest the Warriors may just look to do that, with LeBron James and Anthony Davis as possible pieces.
In order to make that work financially, some things would need to change. One would have to be how much veteran forward Draymond Green takes off the books. Recently, Green opted not to pick up his player option worth $27.7 million.
On Tuesday, Green addressed his reasoning for the decision.
"Opting out, I think for us, it gives optionality," Green said.
"The ownership group has never been one to shy away from doing things that help this team get better and if I can stand on that same side and have a hand in helping this organization be in a better position, I'm always willing to do that."
Those sentiments ought to inspire confidence that Golden State may actually make a big play.
By opting out, this allows the Warriors to access its mid-level exception if Green is brought back at a lower figure. It has been reported that no matter what happens with LeBron and AD, Green will return to Golden State .
Love him or hate him, you cannot deny that winning is of utmost importance to the veteran. If that means taking a pay cut to land a couple of future Hall of Famers, it looks like that is something he is willing to do.
