- Washington football loses LB to high-ankle sprain vs. Iowa Hawkeyes
Demond Williams Jr. wasn't the only member of the Washington Huskies who suffered an injury during Friday's 41-24 loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes . During his Monday press conference, Jedd Fisch took some time to give an update on the status of several members of his team.
Fourth-year linebacker Xe'ree Alexander was spotted in a walking boot and on crutches after the loss, when Fisch stated that he suffered a high-ankle sprain in the loss. The outlook didn't sound too positive for Washington's sixth-leading tackler, with 19 on the year, as the head coach said he will miss a "substantial amount of time."
As for edge rusher Jacob Lane, who briefly went down during the game but was able to return to action, he should be good to go.
"I think he should be ok to play," Fisch said. "But we are waiting to see how he does today and tomorrow in practice."
The head coach said that nickelback Rahshawn Clark should also be good to go, as the third-year was limited to around 30 snaps in the loss after he was unable to play defense against Minnesota due to a calf injury, even though his limitations against Iowa appeared to be more a product of the scheme, since defensive coordinator Ryan Walters called most of his plays out of a base personnel with three linebackers on the field.
Freshman defensive back Jeron Jones, who has been listed as a co-starter in the nickel with Clark all year, is also on track to make his return after suffering a hamstring injury during Washington's loss at USC, which forced him to miss Friday's contest with the Hawkeyes.
