The Washington Huskies men's basketball team was able to land its first commitment from the Class of 2027 on Tuesday.
The Huskies earned a commitment from four-star shooting guard Jimmie Haywood , who opted to join UW amidst a final three that included the Nevada Wolfpack and Loyola Marymount Lions.

On the same day, Washington was unable to break through the final teams or land a commitment from five-stra small forward Malachi Jordan, who ranks as the 20th-best player in the country, per the 247Sports composite .
The Huskies might be able to tilt the balance toward their favor again on the recruiting trail based on the pending decision of another local kid.
Five-star combo guard Jalen Davis announced the final four teams he's contemplating to attend college Tuesday: Washington, the UCLA Bruins, the Gonzaga Bulldogs and the North Carolina Tar Heels .
Davis is a local kid from Bremerton High School in Bremerton, Wash., just an hour-long ferry ride from Seattle.

The 6-foot-4, 175-pound combo guard has long been on the Huskies' radar and took an official visit to Montlake on Sept. 27, 2025.
Davis ranks as the 17th-best player in the country, fourth-best combo guard and best player in Washington in the Class of '27, per the 247Sports composite .
Rivals' Industry Rankings has Davis ranked as the 21st-best player in the country, seventh-best point guard and best player in Washington.
Davis was Washington's boys' basketball Gatorade Player of the Year for the 2025-26 season and averaged 31.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, 5.8 steals and 5.2 assists while shooting 63.9% from the floor.
On3 Sports' prediction model currently has the Huskies as the narrow favorites to land Davis at 23%. The website has the Stanford Cardinal with the second-best odds to land him at 20.1%, but Stanford didn't make Davis' list of final teams.

UCLA has the likeliest odds to land Davis among his remaining finalists at 17.3%, North Carolina stands at 14.4% and Gonzaga is the least-likeliest destination at 13.9%, per the website.
Those odds can change soon with the information of Davis' new finalists, but it seems like Washington currently holds the narrow advantage.
The Huskies also have an issue of funds. UW is reportedly the lowest-ranked team when it comes to spending for its men's basketball roster, and the combo guard will likely receive several decent offers in Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) offers. However, that limitation didn't prevent Washington from landing Haywood.
The Huskies have almost made concerted efforts this offseason to bolster its personnel with a recruiting background, such as general manager Alex Kline and assistant coach Mike Mennenga.
