The Washington Huskies football team is on a two-game win streak and will return back to the Pacific Northwest for its homecoming game against the Penn State Nittany Lions at 12:30 p.m. PT on Saturday at Husky Stadium in Seattle.
It will be the Huskies' first game at Husky Stadium since Oct. 9, where it fell to the Iowa Hawkeyes 41-24. At the time of the loss, Washington was 3-3 overall on the season and was yet to earn a win in Big Ten play.
On Saturday, the Huskies will enter the game 5-3 overall with a 2-3 mark in Big Ten competition. Now, they're one win away from being bowl eligible for the third-straight year, all under head coach Jedd Fisch.
Washington has been able to rattle off its two consecutive wins and is knocking on the door of a bowl game despite the running back room being depleted.
The Huskies have been down to just three tailbacks on the travel team at points this season. In spring practice, the assumptive starter, third-year running back Jordan Washington, went down with a neck injury. In Week 1 of the season, first-string back and second-year player Quaid Carr was knocked out of action with a hand/wrist injury and his backup, fourth-year Jayden Limar, went down with an elbow injury.
The injuries to Carr, Washington and Limar were expected to keep them out for most, if not the entire season. Limar was able to return for the team's 17-10 win against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Oct. 31. He finished the game with two carries for 11 yards and caught another pass for 8 yards.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Washington or Carr will have a similar fate.
Per a post on "X" from KJR 933 AM radio host Dick Fain, Fisch stated that neither Washington nor Carr will return the rest of this season.
With the two out of action, UW will have a three-deep running back rotation of first-year Brian Bonner, Limar and sixth-year Trey Cooley.
Limar has 14 carries for 58 yards this season and has caught one pass for eight yards; Bonner has received 68 totes for 309 yards and a touchdown and has reeled in four receptions for 31 yards and a score; Cooley has ran 38 times for 170 yards and a touchdown and has received five passes for 17 yards.
Washington ran 27 times for 233 yards and a touchdown last season and Carr ran five times for 28 yards in Week 1 before going down with his injury.
