The running back room was arguably the biggest question mark for the Washington Huskies football team entering the offseason.
The Huskies lost their leading rusher, Jonah Coleman , to the NFL draft. The second-leading rusher from the running back room, Adam Mohammed, transferred to the Cal Golden bears.

On the day before the second game of the season against the Utah State Aggies, those questions are no closer to being answered.
Washington will go with a top three of sixth-year running back Trey Cooley, and true freshmen Brian Bonner and Ansu Sanoe due to injuries suffered by second-year Quaid Carr and fourth-year Jayden Limar in the team's 24-10 win against the Washington State Cougars on Sept. 6.
The team will go with a by-committee approach to Bonner, Sanoe and Cooley for Saturday, similar to the same method the team opted for with Carr, Limar and Cooley in the game against the Cougars.
Carr and Limar entered the season as the top two running backs on the team's depth chart due to a neck injury suffered by third-year running back Jordan Washington in spring practice.

Washington was originally thought to be likely out for the season and Carr is set to undergo surgery.
Based on a recent update from Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch, the two running backs might have had a switch in fortunes on their initial season outlook.
Per Fisch, Carr's status for the rest of the year is still to-be-determined, but he won't return until the tail end of the season at the earliest, whereas there's a chance that Washington could return to the field sometime this season.
"I am (more optimistic on Washington) based on the way his rehab has gone," Fisch said in a weekly news conference Thursday . "He's gotten a lot stronger. He's stronger than he was before he got hurt, with all of his weight room metrics. ... His speed is the same. The thing that we have to look at is cleared for contact. That decision gets made by the surgeon who took care of him. And then we have to look at conditioning. But in terms of how things are trending, he's doing exceptionally well. But we don't know anything until he gets scanned. ... I think it could be a little earlier (than the end of the season)."

In his redshirt freshman year last season, Washington ran 27 times for 233 yards and a touchdown. He had the most yards in 2025 among returners in the running back room.
Before his early exit against Washington State, Carr had five carries for 28 yards.
