Dayton went 2-1 in exhibition play, dropping its first game to St. Xavier 82-76 in the CareSource Invitational at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason on Oct. 7 before beating Notre Dame 75-65 at UD Arena on Oct. 17 and Morehead State 88-56 at UD Arena on Oct. 24.
UD is returning 7-foot-1 junior Amaël L'Etang (11.9 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game) from last year's team, which finished 25-12 (12-6 Atlantic 10), runners-up in the A-10 Tournament with a postseason run to the NIT quarterfinals.
Newcomers Landen Joseph (7.9 ppg, 2.5 rpg at Marshall), Zaide Lowery (8.1 ppg at Marquette) and Travis Perry (5.3 ppg at Ole Miss) will look to bolster a Flyer backcourt that lost guards Javon Bennett and De'Shayne Montgomery from last season.
UD had three Flyers average in double-digit scoring in the preseason, led by junior Malcolm Thomas with 11.7. Freshman Aiden Derkack, brother of former Flyer Jordan Derkack, averaged 11 points and sophomore Landen Joseph averaged 10.
