Army begins its fourth season under head coach Kevin Kuwik after finishing 11-21 overall and 5-13 in the Patriot League last year. Senior guard Ryan Curry returns after leading the Black Knights with 13.3 points, 4.5 assists and 4.1 rebounds. Jacen Holloway also returns after averaging 10.8 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 51.0% from the field. Army brings back four starters from last season, giving the team some experience heading into a tough matchup, having lost 114-59 to Duke last November.

Duke enters the season ranked No. 2 after finishing 35-3 and reaching the Elite Eight last year. Head coach Jon Scheyer returns several key players, including Caleb Foster, Cayden Boozer, Dame Sarr and Patrick Ngongba II, while Wisconsin transfer John Blackwell adds another scoring option. The Blue Devils played well in their preseason games, beating Tennessee 103-64 and Kansas 90-84, where Duke was tested but made a late comeback for the win.
