The Indiana Fever drew a lot of attention during Monday night's WNBA Draft. This is after the Fever decided to select Raven Johnson as the 10th overall pick in the first round.
While most fans met the news with excitement, more than a few others questioned the team's decision to add another guard.
Johnson joins Indiana following a memorable five-year stint with the South Carolina Gamecocks . The 23-year-old is a two-time NCAA champion, who was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year and an AP All-American this past season.

Disgruntled Fever fans wasted no time airing their grievance over the Johnson decision. These set of supporters believe that there were more viable options available on the board than the 5-foot-8 guard.
White, however, is clearly delighted with the pick. The cameras caught the incoming second-year coach's immediate reaction as she spoke with Johnson over the phone.
"Raven!" White screamed as she excitedly clapped her hands. "… Congratulations! Let's go!"
General manager Amber Cox was also on the call, and she, too, expressed her excitement. According to Cox, Johnson was on top of the Fever's draft board all along, and they were extremely delighted that she was still available when it was Indiana's turn to make their pick.
Coach White also complimented Johnson's outfit during the call. Naturally, the Fever coach ended with a fitting reminder. "Get to work," White said.
Johnson played 40 games for the Gamecocks last season. She averaged 9.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 28.7 minutes per contest.
As White and Cox expressed, the Fever are very much looking forward to Johnson brining her winning mentality to the team in 2026.
