Nearly 100 years after their only fixture to date, Texas and Texas State will lock horns once more in a Week 1 opener to be savored this Saturday. The Bobcats will make the trip up the I-35 targeting an upset for the ages, while Texas State will have one eye firmly on Ohio State next week.
Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning returns in a season being framed as make-or-break for sixth-year head coach Steve Sarkisian. Texas fans are desperate for a national championship 21 years since their last, and hopes are high after some hefty additions to the running department that struggled quite significantly last year.
The Bobcats, meanwhile, are desperate to make a mark as new members of the Pac-12, having joined the conference as part of a substantial rejig. They're led by fourth-year head coach G.J. Kinne, who started his college career at quarterback for Saturday's opponent before being shifted out of the picture by one Colt McCoy.

The first meeting between these teams since 1930 promises to be a blockbuster, though Texas will view it largely as a warm-up opportunity for the bigger tests to come. The Bobcats will aim to pounce on the slightest sniff of complacency from the hosts at Darrell K Royal -Texas Memorial Stadium, however, as Kinne has his own axe to grind in a tantalizing season-opener.
