Bucky Irvingaims to stay scorching in Chicago, Jonah Colemangets comfortable in the Broncos' starting spot, and Braelon Allenagain prepares for Breece Hall's return.
Other positions: Quarterback | Receiver | Tight End/Kickers/Defense
Updated 11/5 at 5:30 PM ET. Decided to keep Bhayshul Tuten at RB16 following Jeremy Fowler's report he is "good to go." I originally had Tuten higher, but I feel the snap restriction risk is simply too high on the short week after he failed to practice.

RB Notes: Christian McCaffrey(hamstring) is not practicing to begin the week. We ultimately expect him to be out there against the Raiders, but perhaps Kyle Shanahan will give his lead back another week to get right with the Niners two-score favorites vs. the Silver and Black. In the event of a CMC no-show, Kaelon Blackwould become a must-start option. Even now, Black is a solid FLEX in a game that could have lots of clean-up time. … Bhayshul Tutenhas been setting up breakout pins to be knocked down for weeks now, but the RB1 coronation appears on hold for Thursday evening's short-week date with two-score underdog Baltimore. Even if Tuten does play through his foot and ankle issues, why would you give him a full workload when the other team's starting quarterback is a UDFA out of UConn? Tuten is now an uncertain RB2, with Chris Rodriguez Jr.a must-play FLEX even if Tuten suits up. … TreVeyon Hendersonhas now remained sidelined for more than a week with an illness. Hopefully it's just a case of the trade deadline flu, because otherwise that would be highly unusual and a sign of something actually serious. Whatever it is, Henderson appears unlikely to face the Packers. That leaves 18-20 touches for Rhamondre Stevensonin what should be a back-and-forth affair with the Packers.
Braleon Allenhas played so well for so long during Breece Hall's injury that it is tempting to believe there is no way the Jets could go back to their old committee status quo, but that is frequently the disappointing outcome in these situations. We will give Allen a one-week benefit of the doubt period, but he has fallen from borderline RB1 to more uncertain RB2. … As for Hall, it is best to treat him as an Ashton Jeanty type. No longer the clear-cut leader on early downs, but a high-value touch magnet in the passing game. He's in the RB2/3 mix, with ample room to grow ahead of Week 10. … It's taken a lot, but it appears Tyler Allgeieris getting something of a last fantasy laugh in the Cardinals' backfield, right down to the Birds making a quarterback change in time for one of the toughest road trips an NFL team can make. With Jeremiyah Loveand Bam Knightout and Gardner Minshew starting, it would be an enormous upset were Allgeier to finish with fewer than 18 touches. That puts you on the RB2 map. Let's see if he can stay there.
It would appear Sean Payton has finally stopped messing around in his backfield. Jonah Colemanled in every meaningful Week 8 category, and is actually producing, unlike J.K. Dobbins. Things tend to change quickly in Payton's world, but the Coleman we saw in Week 8 was an RB2. … As for Ashton Jeantyand Mike Washington Jr., I believe several things happened in Week 8: Washington missed his shot, and Jeanty got the message. The Raiders were more than willing to let MWJ run away with early-down duties. Only he didn't run away from anybody behind the Raiders' hideous run blocking. Jeanty, meanwhile, actually made the most of his extremely limited workload, and still maintained the lead in passing situations. More likely to force more of a timeshare on early downs instead of repeating last week's 25-2 disaster, Jeanty gets one more week ahead of Washington in the ranks. … David Montgomery(groin) has already been declared out for Week 9, leaving the Woody Marksone man band intact against the Chargers. With the Texans road favorites against the dazed Bolts, Marks should at least receive an RB2 workload. Whether he turns it into RB2 returns is another question.
The Vikings' Week 8 backfield could not have been less satisfying if it tried. Neither Aaron Jonesnor Jordan Masonreached 40 percent of the Vikes' snaps in a slobberknocker with the Lions, while DeeJay Dallaswas somehow on the field more frequently than Mason. That points in the direction of a continued Jones advantage when it comes to overall work and high-value touches, but he is not somebody you would feel good about in your RB2 spot. … The Seahawks' backfield has become enough of a fantasy quagmire that it is tempting to boil it down to its basest elements, such as — who is the best player? It's probably Jadarian Price, but "probably" tends not to get you very far in the Mad Max wasteland that is the current RBFLEX landscape. The most likely "probably" is a do-over of the Seahawks' Week 8 approach. Keep spreading the ball around and see what it happens, especially with starting QB Sam Darnold down for a date with the lowly, road-tripping, quarterback-changing Cardinals. As such, we can't make any strong recommendations, but we also can't rule out the likes of Zach Charbonnet.
Speaking Wednesday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles claimed Kenneth Gainwell's recent production has the Bucs' backfield much closer to the 1A/1B ordeal fantasy managers feared over the summer. While that cannot be completely ruled out, I still think it is a safer bet Gainwell was the beneficiary of back-to-back unrepeatable game scripts. And for as well as Gainwell played, Bucky Irvingwas much better. I'm not letting Bowles' comments scare me off Irving, and I also won't let them talk me into starting Gainwell. … I wouldn't typically be typing up reasons to start the Browns' change-of-pace running back, but with Deshaun Watson (concussion) likely to sit, check-down king Shedeur Sanders could develop quite the repartee with third-down option Dylan Sampson. … The Chargers still had a full-blown three-man backfield committee coming out of their bye week. Omarion Hampton"led" with 11 touches but played fewer snaps than both Kimani Vidaland Keaton Mitchell. Hampton continues to default into the "highest" rank, but highest in this case should be outside most FLEX spots. … It was about time Emmett Johnsongot more involved as a pass catcher. Alas, he actually played his fewest snaps of the season and did not see an increase in routes. Aka, it is quite possible it was a fluke. We can at least hope it was a fluke that opened some Chiefs coaching staff eyes.
