A recent report from the French outlet Media Foot indicates that West Ham United are actively pursuing Guillaume Restes to bolster their goalkeeping options this month. The club's hierarchy apparently views the 20-year-old Toulouse shot-stopper as a priority target.
They want to wrap up negotiations before the transfer window closes. Multiple Premier League sides have noticed Restes. He has made a name for himself as one of Ligue 1's brightest prospects with a valuation of roughly €20 million. The Hammers aim to secure a deal quickly. However, they face a tough battle due to the high level of competition for his signature.
Tottenham Hotspur also monitor the situation closely. The North London club seemingly consider Restes a potential upgrade on Guglielmo Vicario . At the very least, they see him as a competitor who could challenge for the number one spot immediately. On top of that, Newcastle United remains keen on the French Under-21 international.
This adds another wealthy suitor to the race. So, West Ham must act decisively if they intend to bring this highly rated talent to the London Stadium. The Hammers should clearly recognise the need for long-term planning between the posts. This sudden push suggests they believe Restes fits their requirements perfectly.

West Ham currently rely on Alphonse Areola as the first-choice goalkeeper, with the veteran Lukasz Fabianski providing cover. Areola possesses significant experience and undeniable reflexes. However, his distribution sometimes lacks consistency, which limits the team's build-up play.
What's more, Fabianski is nearing his 40th birthday. This means the club need a youthful successor who can command the defence for the next decade. Restes offers a modern profile. He combines excellent shot-stopping with composure on the ball. These traits would immediately improve the squad's technical floor.
The financial power of Tottenham and Newcastle will make securing his services difficult. Spurs can offer European football more consistently. Meanwhile, Newcastle boast vast resources. However, West Ham could present a clearer pathway to first-team football.
If the Hammers guarantee him the starting role ahead of Areola, that promise might sway his decision. The €20 million fee represents a significant outlay for a goalkeeper. Still, investing in Restes is a smart move for a club that need to lower the average age of their squad. If the board sanctions the bid, West Ham hold a genuine chance of winning this race.
