Nearly 11 months after rupturing the patellar tendon in his knee, Triston Casas could soon make it into a game.
The Boston Red Sox first baseman is “working toward game action,” a source told MassLive’s Christ Cotillo .
Casas is running the bases and doing sliding drills. He has been hitting and fielding throughout spring and homered in a back field game Saturday.
Legitimate game action is the final important hurdle for Casas.
Casas will likely start his season either in Fort Myers or with an affiliate and will probably need multiple weeks of playing in the minors before the team considers having him rejoin the Red Sox.
The 26-year-old has struggled with injuries for the past two seasons, playing in just 63 games in 2024 due to a rib cage tear and taking part in just 29 games in 2025 before his knee injury.
“You see cases like this all the time where guys get injured and sometimes their careers get derailed and sometimes they bounce back,” Casas told Cotillo earlier in spring training . “I guess we’re just going to see how I bounce back from this.”
