Tommy Pham picked quite the moment to record his first hit of the 2026 season.
The Chicago White Sox veteran launched a three-run homer in the fifth inning Wednesday against the Cleveland Guardians , temporarily giving Chicago a 3-2 lead in a massive AL Central showdown.
And this wasn't exactly a cheap one. Pham crushed an 80.7 mph curveball 412 feet to left-center field with an exit velocity of 106.5 mph. Chase Meidroth and Randal Grichuk scored ahead of him as Pham completely erased an early two-run deficit with one swing.
Unfortunately for Chicago, the lead didn't last long. Cleveland responded and eventually jumped back in front 6-3, but that doesn't take away from how incredible the moment was for Pham.
The 38-year-old was activated from the injured list Wednesday after dealing with a left calf strain. Pham had appeared in just one game for Chicago after being acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies at the end of August and entered Wednesday still searching for his first hit of the season.
In fact, according to reports, the way Pham convinced general manager Chris Getz is flat-out awesome.
"He (Pham) said he ran into Chris Getz in the elevator last night and told him he was ready. 'What happens if you don't run into him?' 'Probably wait till this weekend,'" Rogers reported.
The White Sox entered Wednesday only a half-game ahead of Cleveland for first place in the AL Central, making every run increasingly important as the regular season winds down. Pham was brought to Chicago to provide veteran experience for exactly these types of games.
