White Sox vs Royals MLB Betting Preview
The Chicago White Sox visit Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday afternoon to close out a late-season division series against the Kansas City Royals.
Both teams are operating in non-contention, experimental modes down the stretch, with managers test-driving pitching-usage strategies and younger arms ahead of the offseason.

For Chicago, the primary headline in this mid-week matchup is the tactical deployment on the mound. Left-hander Bryan Hudson gets the nod as an opener or short-stint starter. Having spent the majority of the season operating out of the bullpen (67 relief appearances on the year), Hudson's role is designed to give the White Sox a clean first pass through the top of Kansas City's order before turning the game over to long-relief bulk pitchers.
Kansas City counters with veteran righty Seth Lugo (7-9, 5.08 ERA). The Royals are looking to cap off their home slate with stable length, while Chicago continues to lean heavily on bullpen games to manage starter workloads entering the final days of the regular season.
Our PRO Props system has flagged value on Bryan Hudson going under his strikeouts total.
Bryan Hudson's primary limitation for strikeout props is strictly volume-based. Hudson has functioned almost exclusively as a high-volume reliever throughout the season, averaging roughly 1.0 inning per outing. In his brief starts or opener assignments, he rarely works past the 1st inning or faces more than 3–4 batters total. With such a capped pitch count (typically 10 to 18 pitches), his window to record a strikeout is extremely narrow.

Hudson maintains a modest 8.1 K/9 rate. Across his last 10 appearances, Hudson went without a single strikeout in 6 of them, recording 0 Ks
in outings against Cleveland, Minnesota, Detroit
, and St. Louis
. When facing top-of-the-order hitters on short notice, openers typically pitch to contact or seek ground balls to manage efficiency.
Athlon Sports
The Royals' top-of-the-order features heavy-contact hitters who put the ball in play early in counts, minimizing long at-bats and strikeouts. Against a left-handed opener, Kansas City's lineup will look to jump on early-count fastballs rather than taking pitches deep into counts. PRO Projections heavily factor in Hudson's expected short pitch count, giving the Under 0.5 Strikeouts a high-value edge over market lines that over-index on standard starting pitcher prop baselines.
Pick: Bryan Hudson Under 0.5 Strikeouts (+155, bet365)
