The Colorado Avalanche are one of the final four teams skating in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season. Colorado is in the Western Conference final, against the Vegas Golden Knights . Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar is opening up about how hard it is to compete for a Stanley Cup title.

"It's partly why I think it is the hardest trophy to win is just because of the grind of it all," Bednar said, per NHL.com. "Not only do you have to be good; you have to be healthy, you have to be lucky, you have to be tough, playing through injuries.
"You have to be mentally tough, too, because it is a grind every day; every game is a Game 7. Every game feels like it is Game 7 because you need to win it."
Despite the grind, Bednar is excited to see his team take the ice one again.
"It should be fun this time of year," Bednar said. "It's really the reason we play. Nobody is playing for the 82-game grind, right. They are playing for the playoffs."

The Avalanche already eliminated the Minnesota Wild and the Los Angeles Kings in the playoffs. Colorado lost just one game during those two series.
Avalanche players are ready for the next challenge.
"It's the added excitement," Avalanche forward Brock Nelson said. "The stakes are so high, the emotion swings, the adrenaline swings, I feel like they are as high as it gets. This is the pinnacle of what you play for all year. You are riding that, but obviously you can't get too caught up in that and you have to have short-term memory at the same time and go out there each and every day with a fresh mindset."
Colorado and Vegas play Game 1 on Wednesday of their series. The Eastern Conference final meanwhile features the Montreal Canadiens, against the Carolina Hurricanes .
