The Denver Broncos are a team likely to be in the buyer's market at the 2026 NFL trade deadline. There are a few areas worth looking at for this Broncos squad, including on defense.
But the biggest need for this team might come at running back. While their current options haven't been horrible, if this team wants to take a huge leap, landing a superstar RB would be a huge help in getting past the Kansas City Chiefs .
But the Broncos might not only add to their RB room, but they could also look to trade J.K. Dobbins. Why? According to The Athletic's Jonathan Jones , if the Broncos add a star RB in a trade, then Dobbins could become expendable and be a trade candidate.
Why Broncos could trade J.K. Dobbins away before NFL deadline
"If the Denver Broncos were to land a new running back, that would make J.K. Dobbins expendable," Jones reports. "Hard to see him leaving Denver if the team doesn't acquire a runner in the next week and a half, though."
Denver is going to be in the market for Taylor, the star Colts running back, leading up to the trade deadline. Plenty of other teams are likely involved as well, but if the Broncos win the bidding war, Dobbins could be on the move.
Jonah Coleman is a rookie running back and isn't going anywhere. RJ Harvey, while he just got banged up, has been a solid runner and receiver when given the opportunity.
If the Broncos land Taylor, or another star running back like Tony Pollard or even Saquon Barkley, then trading Dobbins would make some sense.

Nothing is saying the Broncos have to trade Dobbins if they add a star RB like Taylor, but it would make sense to try and recoup some value for him in a trade this Fall if they no longer need him as a lead back.
Obviously, if the Broncos stand pat at the trade deadline at running back, Dobbins will be sticking in Denver. But if they win the sweepstakes for a star RB, Broncos fans shouldn't rule out seeing Dobbins on the move as well.
This could be a very interesting trade deadline for the Denver backfield, as it could look a lot different after the November 10 trade deadline than it does heading into Week 8.
