The New York Mets continue to struggle. They lost again on Sunday, falling to the Arizona Diamondbacks in their third loss in the last four games. The team continues to have issues at the plate, sitting last in the majors in batting average and slugging percentage.
One of the players struggling to hit is Juan Soto . He is hitting just .121 in May, and now is speaking out about why he is not hitting well, per SNY.
“I’ve just been missing a lot of balls. They’ve been throwing me pitches right there, and I’ve just been a little under,” Soto said.
So far in May, Soto has just four hits in 33 at-bats, while also having five walks. Meanwhile, he has just two RBIs and three runs scored. Further, he has struck out eight times. Soto also did not have a hit in the series with the Diamondbacks, going 0-10 with two walks and two strikeouts.
Soto is hitting .264 with four home runs, ten RBIs, and a .364 on-base percentage after starting the season strong. He finished April with a .345 batting average and a .441 on-base percentage, but has seen his batting average plummet during the recent cold snap.
The Mets as a team have not hit well over the last week. In the last six games, they have hit just .194 with a .268 on-base percentage. Meanwhile, they have scored just 21 runs in that time. The result is a 3-3 record in the last six games.
The Mets are now 15-25 on the season , which is last in the NL East. They open a three-game series with the Detroit Tigers at home on Tuesday.
