The Green Bay Packers have a fluid running back situation headed into training camp. Lead back Josh Jacobs is dealing with some legal trouble that could impact his availability this fall. But one Packers insider thinks an unheralded third-year back could play a big role in 2026.

Packers insider Bill Huber seems extremely confident in MarShawn Lloyd ahead of the 2026 season. Huber answered mailbag questions in a recent article, including multiple questions about Lloyd.
Huber went on record stating he does think the 2026 season will be different for Lloyd.
"Yes, I do think this year will be different. He practiced every day during the spring," Huber wrote. "Obviously, a Tuesday in June isn't the same as a Tuesday during training camp or a Sunday during the regular season, but, as the saying goes, a journey of a million miles starts with the first step. Being available for OTAs and minicamp is a really big first step that even Lloyd pointed out."
Injuries have kept Lloyd off the field for the majority of his career. He's suffered multiple hamstring injuries on top of additional lower-body injuries. But so far, he's healthy ahead of training camp this year.

Huber was also asked if Lloyd could be the starter over Jacobs in 2027 if he performs as expected in 2026. Huber believes it could happen, especially because of Jacobs comes with a big cap hit next season .
"So, how about this: I'd give Lloyd a 35 percent chance to be the Week 1 starter in [2027], a 30 percent chance for it being Jacobs, a 20 percent chance for it being Chris Brooks and a 15 percent chance for it being a rookie or some other low-level veteran," Huber concluded.
Still, all of this talk hinges on Lloyd actually putting together a breakout season in 2026. That is pure speculation at this point, as Lloyd has yet to take part in a padded practice this offseason.
Packers fans should keep a close eye on Lloyd throughout training camp later this summer.
