Leicester City fans will and have always generally wished Jamie Vardy luck in any endeavour he undertakes. The legendary former Foxes striker remains the East Midlands club's greatest-ever player, having almost won it all on Filbert Way during one of the most legendary and storied careers in football history.
However, as his current side Cremonese approach their final precarious Serie A fixture against Como , certain shrewd City supporters could be found rooting against their long-time idol. Such seemingly ironic along with adverse sentiment is merely a byproduct of hope: those fans remain profoundly and hypothetically invested in the prospect of a fairytale homecoming for the man who defined a Leicestershire and a footballing era.
Jamie Vardy will be a free agent this summer, but only if Cremonese get relegated
The stakes for Cremo are stark: they occupy a perilous position in the Italian top flight and require a specific sequence of results to maintain their hard-earned status. Should the "City of Violins" suffer the indignity of relegation, the contractual obligations tying Vardy to the mainland Europe may dissolve, effectively clearing his path back to English shores .

Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester City want marquee Jamie Vardy signing
Interestingly, supporters of Sheffield Wednesday are likely harboring identical desires whilst monitoring the unfolding drama in Italy with heightened anticipation. The Owls, also demoted to League One, hold a romantic connection to the Sheffield-born marksman who once graced their academy, and their hierarchy reportedly dream of his return to Hillsborough too .
So, while no one will be directly rooting for Vardy's relegation this Sunday, there may be some quiet celebration at the King Power or at Hillsborough if Cremonese are unable to win for a third straight weekend to complete their great escape out of the Serie A relegation zone.
Should Cremonese manage to secure their survival, the veteran striker might well opt to activate a clause for a one-year contract extension, prolonging his Mediterranean odyssey. Yet, despite such possibilities, the prevailing narrative suggests that a return to Leicester remains the more probable destination than Yorkshire for a player whose heart, despite his recent Italian exploits, will always beat in rhythm with the Blue Army.
A big summer decision for Mr Vardy
Ultimately, the choice facing Vardy this summer is one of professional legacy and emotional pull, pitting the allure of continued elite European football against the unfinished business of a nostalgic homecoming. He must choose either the chaotic comfort of the familiar East Midlands landscape and embrace the challenge of a new chapter at his boyhood club, or Cremo.
