- Why is Texas A&M's defensive line the X-factor vs. South Carolina?
Texas A&M returns from its bye week, looking to snap a two-game losing streak against No. 23 South Carolina. The Aggies face a difficult road test, and containing Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers could be the difference between another SEC loss and a much-needed victory.
Sellers is one of the SEC's most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks, combining a powerful arm with the size and physicality of a running back. Through eight games, he leads South Carolina with 603 rushing yards and six touchdowns. His ability to break tackles and turn potential losses into explosive gains makes him especially difficult to defend.

For Texas A&M, getting to Sellers won't be enough. The Aggies must keep him contained, limit yards after contact and finish tackles when opportunities arise. That makes the defensive line this week's X-factor.
Why Texas A&M's defensive line is the X-factor
Pressuring Sellers is only half the battle. At nearly 240 pounds, the South Carolina quarterback is difficult to bring down, routinely bouncing off defenders and picking up additional yards after contact. Sellers is coming off an impressive performance against Oklahoma, accounting for five touchdowns while rushing for 96 yards. His ability to extend plays makes him especially dangerous when defenders lose containment.
Texas A&M has allowed 133.1 rushing yards per game this season, but defending Sellers presents a different challenge. The Aggies must account for designed quarterback runs while remaining disciplined when passing plays break down.

As Mike Elko explained during his weekly press conference , Sellers' ability to carry the football creates unique problems for opposing defenses.
What Texas A&M needs from its defensive line
The Aggies need their defensive front to control the line of scrimmage, maintain gap discipline and prevent Sellers from escaping outside the pocket.
That means setting the edge, avoiding overpursuit, and making sure the first defender to reach Sellers finishes the tackle. Arm tackles will not be enough against a quarterback who thrives on contact. Texas A&M also needs to create pressure without sacrificing defensive responsibilities. An aggressive pass rush can become a liability if Sellers finds an opening and takes off downfield.

The Aggies do not necessarily need to shut down South Carolina's rushing attack completely. They need to limit explosive plays, force manageable third-down situations for their defense and make Sellers earn every yard. If Texas A&M's defensive line can consistently get Sellers on the ground and prevent second-effort gains, the Aggies will give themselves a much better chance of leaving Columbia with a victory.
