USC football plays Wisconsin this coming Saturday . Though the Wisconsin offense is limited, the Badgers appear to have a formidable defense which can challenge the Trojans ' offense. We talked to Badgers Wire editor Jordon Lawrenz about the matchup between the UW defense and USC's offense. Lawrenz is optimistic about the ability of Wisconsin to contain the Men of Troy and create the low-scoring game Wisconsin needs in order to have a chance to win:
"Wisconsin's defense looked incredible last week against UCLA," Lawrenz told us. "Sure, having a backup QB get the job done against you isn't necessarily a great thing to have happen, but that was an incredibly weird game with how it was officiated. No excuses though, the Badgers didn't get the job done on third down. Still, they only allowed 17 points. That's a huge win. Mason Posa has been incredible, and then there's always Cooper Catalano and Matthew Jung who continue to grow week in and week out."
UCLA does have a backup quarterback, so the fact that Wisconsin held the Bruins to only 17 points might not seem that impressive, but we have to note that Wisconsin's offense scored only seven points last week and did not help the Badger defense at all. Wisconsin's defense was all by itself on an island and still held up well over the course of 60 minutes. This looks like a legitimately tough defense which will challenge USC, especially at home and at night in Madison. Jayden Maiava has to protect the ball and make sure he avoids a big mistake which could gift Wisconsin seven points in a game which could easily be close. USC's offense is talented, but facing the Badger defense will not be a cakewalk.
