- WR Hardley Gilmore IV might not play for Kentucky Wildcats this season
The Kentucky Wildcats are more than likely going to be short one of their premier receivers, Hardley Gilmore IV . It has been a rocky career in Lexington for Gilmore IV, who opted to hit the transfer portal multiple times, just to return to the Wildcats down the road. This offseason, he was eyeing the Baylor Bears, before inevitably returning to Kentucky for what was going to be his junior season.
While he's not necessarily the best receiver, Kenny Minchey and company really need all hands on deck to produce offensively with first-year head coach Will Stein leading the way. Stein has tremendous success through the air while with the Oregon Ducks , so it could set the offense back a bit before the season even starts.
Per Kentucky Sports Radio's Jeff Drummond , Gilmore IV was dismissed due to a "violation of team rules," but what that means exactly isn't quite known. The 6-foot-1 receiver has spent the last two seasons with the Cats and played in 12 games in 2025, ending with 313 receiving yards and one touchdown.
That should allow for other players, namely Nic Anderson and Shane Carr, to step up. DJ Miller is a name to keep an eye on as well. All three of those players should be able to fill the gap left by Gilmore IV's dismissal.
While his career in Lexington might not have gone according to plan, Gilmore IV has been involved. He's been part of the kick return team, and he saw growing usage as a receiver last season. Gilmore IV ended with 153 yards on 6 receptions as a freshman, playing in 7 games.
He was going to potentially be a breakout candidate, but now it'll be telling to see if he can even make a return to the roster down the road.
