There is a reason Kansas State Wildcats quarterback Avery Johnson is extra confident entering this season.
Johnson has always had solid receivers throughout his career, but things are even more interesting after the Wildcats acquired Missouri Tigers transfer Josh Manning . He is expected to lead a talented group of receivers this fall.
"I am super excited to be able to throw the ball to Josh this year," Johnson during spring practices.
Manning's arrival helps offset the loss of Jayce Brown , who transferred to LSU . At Mizzou, Manning had 29 catches for 318 yards in 12 games last year as a junior. He caught 13 passes for 192 yards and a touchdown.
Manning has made plenty of progress since joining the program. He was generally regarded as the top receiver in Missouri his senior season of high school at Lee's Summit.
"It's been really fun to watch his progression," Klein said. "Our defense doesn't give you anything easy out there on the edge and on the perimeter. I think his ability to create separation and release off the line has improved. He's got very good long speed, and being able to translate that in and out of routes has gotten better. I appreciate the heck out of them. I think he's in the top five in total reps for the spring, so he's really worked hard and gotten better."
K-STATE CHASING TWO-WAY TEXAS STANDOUT
Kansas State football is still stacking its offers for both the 2027 and 2028 classes.
The latest was two-way athlete Antonio Dural, who currently attends Klein Oak High School in Spring, TX. He plays cornerback and wide receiver and received an offer from Wildcats cornerbacks coach Marcel Yates.
"After a great conversation with Coach [Marcel] Yates, I am super excited to announce that I have received an Offer from Kansas State," Dural tweeted on Friday.
Last season, Dural had 15 total tackles and five pass deflections, along with 30 offensive touches for 468 total yards and three touchdowns. Among the other notable schools offering him are SMU, Kansas, and Nebraska . Kansas State currently has seven defensive backs, including two who play on both sides of the field.
