The New York Yankees have hit a rough patch over the last week, currently losers of five straight games heading into Monday's series opener at home against the Los Angeles Angels . During the skid, the Yankees' bats have largely gone cold, with the team finding itself unable to keep up with the Tampa Bay Rays during a recent series sweep.
Now, superstar Aaron Judge has spoken out about what he believes has gone into the team's struggles to produce at the plate.
"We're trying to hit every single pitch we see up there and kind of getting ourselves in some bad counts and bad situations," Judge said, per NJ.com's Randy Miller, via Peter Chawaga of Forbes. "I think as a group if we simplify some things, simplify our approach a little bit, hunt the pitch that we're looking for and kind of pass the baton, we'll get a better spot."
Indeed, the Yankees haven't shown great discipline at the plate over their last few games, consistently trying to go for game-breaking swings as opposed to letting things come to them.
Judge also kept it real on his concern level at this early juncture of the season.
"Yeah, we've lost some games, so I'm concerned about that," Judge said. "I'm not gonna sit here and talk about all the things that concern me. We've got a job to do and we've got to focus on the positive things."
The Yankees entered this season with high expectations, two years removed from their appearance in the 2024 World Series, having lost to the eventual AL champion Toronto Blue Jays last year in the ALDS.
While it's still very early, the Yankees are hoping that the series against the Angels will present them with an opportunity to get back into the win column and heat up on offense.
