The New York Yankees have had multiple injuries this year and they have managed to move into a tie with the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the American League East after defeating the struggling Boston Red Sox by a 6-1 margin Sunday. They are managing to play solid baseball even though sluggers Aaron Judge and Gaincarlo Stanton are both out with injuries.

Manager Aaron Boone has seen his pitchers do an outstanding job this season, and youngster Cam Schlittler continues to perform at an All-Star level. He allowed one earned run in 5.2 innings against the Red Sox while striking out five and walking one.
Schlittler has made 28 starts to this point in his career since his promotion from the minor leagues last season, and he has a 2.38 career earned run average . That's the fourth-best figure in Yankees history among starting pitchers through their first 28 starts.
The only Yankees pitchers who have had a lower ERA over that time frame include Stan Bahnsen (2.16), Bill Stafford (2.30) and Mel Stottlemyre (2.35).
In addition to putting himself in that elite company, Schlittler has allowed 1 or 0 runs in 8 of his last 10 starts. He has become the dominant starter on the Yankees staff , although the return of Gerrit Cole from his injury means that he will likely surrender that position shortly.

Schlittler has made 14 starts this season for the Yankees and 8 have been listed as quality starts. He has a 7-3 record with a 1.87 ERA while striking out 89 batters in 82.0 innings. The 25-year-old from Weymouth, Massachusetts has been able to dominate with his high fastball.
