Yankees rumors: Buster Olney outlines possibility NY moves on from Jazz Chisholm Jr amid struggles appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
While the New York Yankees , on the whole, are doing fairly decent, second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. is struggling. He is going through an 8-for-48 slump at the plate and is batting .203 with 31 hits, four home runs, and 14 RBIs.
Given that, ESPN MLB insider Buster Olney has a hunch that the Yankees will likely make some changes at 2nd base, per The Michael Kay Show. The context in which Chisholm is makes that all the more possible, according to Olney.
"I'm going to be really curious to see what happens with Jazz here over the next two and a half months,' Olney said. "At some point, especially because they don't have a future tied to him, this is not a second-year player where he's going to be under team control the next four years. And you're maybe going to have more patience, as they did with (Anthony) Volpe. He's a free agent at year's end. At some point, they are going to need better production at that position, and I'm sure they're going to be market opportunities for trades or eternally."
The Yankees have George Lombard Jr and Oswaldo Cabrera as backup second basemen. It's possible that they could shift shortstop Anthony Volpe to second base. Another candidate is reportedly third baseman Ryan McMahon .
Currently, Chisholm is playing out the final year of his one-year, $10.2 million contract . He will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Thus, he would be able to sign with a new team or negotiate a sign-and-trade.
