The New York Giants are releasing veteran kicker Graham Gano , ending his six-season tenure with the team.
The move, which had been anticipated throughout the offseason, provides the club with $4.5 million in salary cap savings while incurring $1.25 million in dead money.
Gano, who will turn 39 in April, signed a three-year, $16.5 million extension before the 2023 season after delivering reliable performance in his initial years in New York. Over his time with the Giants, he converted 118 of 135 field goal attempts for an 87.4 percent success rate and set a franchise record with 26 makes from 50 yards or longer. He also holds the team mark for 37 consecutive field goals made during the 2020 and 2021 campaigns.
Injuries, however, severely limited his availability in recent seasons. Gano appeared in just 23 of a possible 51 regular-season games over the past three years, including only five contests in 2025. The persistent physical setbacks made it untenable for the Giants to count on the 16-year NFL veteran moving forward.
The team already added competition at the position, signing free agent Jason Sanders , formerly of the Dolphins, and retaining rookie Ben Sauls , who went a perfect 8 for 8 on field goals late last season.
The Giants now look to stabilize their kicking game with younger, healthier options as they prepare for the upcoming season.
