The New York Jets have dropped two slots down on the ESPN Power Rankings list this week, thanks to their outrageous, egregious, preposterous loss to the previously winless Miami Dolphins.
The Jets now sit at No. 27 on the ESPN list, down two slots from last week. In case you were wondering, the Dolphins win boosted them two slots up to No. 30. The victory not only snapped the winless streak for Miami, but marked the first time all season that they actually had a lead in a game.
The Jets never managed to get on top in the contest, which was considered a must-win if they were to have any hope for the rest of the season. They are now 2-5 and the drumbeats for a coaching overhaul are growing louder.
To form the ESPN list, more than a dozen NFL analysts evaluate how all 32 teams stack up against one another. This week, reporters were also asked to determine which offseason addition to the various teams has had the most impact so far.
The Jets reporter Rich Cimini had an easy choice in edge David Bailey. The No. 2 overall choice in the NFL Draft last April, Bailey has been a monster for the Jets defense.
He leads Gang Green in sacks (5.5), forced fumbles (three), tackles for loss (seven) and QB hits (nine). This while constantly being double-teamed as his reputation and production have grown.
"Bailey has delivered one huge game and a handful of solid ones," Cimini writes. "Everybody knew about his speed and explosiveness during the predraft process, but the most impressive part of his game is his relentless motor. He will be a foundational piece for the Jets moving forward."
Bailey won the NFL Rookie of the Week award for his play in the Cleveland Browns game. In that contest, he had three sacks, four quarterback hits, nine pressures and three tackles for a loss.
Bailey leads all NFL rookies with 26 quarterback pressures. He has 35 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles through the first seven games of the 2026 NFL regular season.
The Jets play the 3-4 Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday at MetLife Stadium. The Raiders are No. 22 on the ESPN Power Rankings list.
