Clemson University announced the results Friday of its fundraising efforts in fiscal year 2023. The university reported raising more than $216.9 million, "surpassing all previous fundraising achievements," per the school's news release.
Of that total, more than 60% came from Clemson athletics ' fundraising arm, IPTAY, which received a record $135 million in donations in fiscal year 2023. Its previous high was $76.3 million in fiscal year 2021.
More than 22,000 donors contributed to IPTAY's total, breaking last year's record of 18,000.
IPTAY's donation total includes major gifts, premium seating revenue, planned giving and IPTAY's annual fund. Of the total, $41.8 million came from the annual fund, IPTAY's membership system.

"We are profoundly grateful for the unwavering support and trust placed in IPTAY by our generous donors who number over 22,000," IPTAY CEO Davis Babb wrote in Friday's release. "Their contributions have an immeasurable impact on our 550 student-athletes, allowing us to provide transformative educational and athletic experiences that will create life-altering opportunities to mold their futures for sustained success."
The total includes the largest individual gift in IPTAY's nearly 90-year history, given by Jim and Candace Brown in December 2022. The exact amount donated was not disclosed, but it was a "Cornerstone Gift," meaning it was at least $2.5 million. At the time of the donation, the athletic department stated that the Browns' gift had put IPTAY over its fundraising goal of $70 million. It was the 27th Cornerstone Gift IPTAY has ever received.
