- Cleveland Cavs hire of Kenny Atkinson gets positive reviews; Dan Gilbert gets scrutiny
The Cleveland Cavs have their man .
The team will announce the hiring of Golden Gate Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson pending approval on a contract. Atkinson has previous head coaching experience, having led the Brooklyn Nets .
He's also worked with Cavs Caris LeVert and Jarrett Allen in the past.
There was little in the way of negativity to be had in social media reactions as the news dropped:
Kenny Atkinson: What to know about the next Cavs coach
The prevailing thought, however, was directed at team owner Dan Gilbert. The organization was split internally according to reports. General manager Koby Altman apparently preferred James Borrego and owner Dan Gilbert, Atkinson.
The guy with the checkbook wins. Some fans expressed concern about that fact given Gilbert's track record in coach preferences (David Blatt anyone?):
With the coaching search apparently over, however, Cavs fans are now focused on the team getting superstar guard Donovan Mitchell extended .
Still, it wouldn't be Northeast Ohio if a glimmer of pessimism didn't shine through from somewhere.
