CLEVELAND — The Guardians felt they were one big game away from a possible breakout , and they hope Saturday's 13-run out-burst was the start of a turnaround following an offensive lull.
And now the Guardians and Rangers meet for Sunday's rubber match in a meeting of left-handed pitchers, Matthew Boyd for Cleveland and Cody Bradford for Texas .

Boyd has been terrific for the Guardians as he returns from Tommy John surgery as a needed option in an inconsistent rotation.

Emmanuel Clase worked a 1-2-3 ninth to notch save No. 38, and the Guardians beat the Rangers 4-2 Sunday afternoon.
David Fry home run gives Guardians insurance run
David Fry answered Seager's home run with a solo shot to the bleacher seats in left field of his own, one that just cleared the 19-foot wall, to put the Guardians up 4-2 in the eighth.

Leody Taveras ' bat flies into Progressive Field crowd
Leody Taveras' bat flew into the stands during his at-bat in the eighth inning.
Taveras swung at a Hunter Gaddis pitch, and the bat flipped out of his hands. It sailed over the railing and into the seats that are behind home plate and next to the visiting dugout. While there is a wall, the top is open air with the netting behind it.
There is no update from the team yet as to any injuries or concerns.
Corey Seager hits home run
The Rangers have made it a one-run game against the league's best bullpen.

With Hunter Gaddis pitching the eighth, Corey Seager hit a solo home run that has trimmed Cleveland's lead to 3-2.
Guardians, Rangers score: Cleveland takes 3-1 lead
The Guardians put runners on the corners in the seventh inning with one out and Austin Hedges up to the plate. He tried to lay down a bunt, but it wasn't needed considering Jose Leclerc committed an error trying to throw a pick-off attempt to first base, which allowed Jhonkensy Noel to jog home and extend the Guardians' lead to 3-1.
Matthew Boyd tosses six innings; Guardians, Rangers score update
Matthew Boyd's strong run since joining the Guardians rotation took another step forward Sunday. He threw six innings, allowed just one run on three hits and struck out four, lowering his ERA to 2.70.

The Guardians lead the Rangers 2-1 entering the seventh as Cade Smith , who Austin Hedges called the second-best reliever in baseball , is entering the game in relief of Boyd.

Rangers' Jonah Heim slices Guardians lead in half
With a runner on, Jonah Heim drilled a ball into the right-center gap that center fielder Lane Thomas nearly caught on the run, getting his glove on it, but it went for a run-scoring double to cut the Guardians' lead to 2-1 in the fifth.
Still, Matthew Boyd has turned in another strong outing thus far, allowing just that one run on three hits.

The Guardians have continued their scoring surge that began last night.
In the first inning, Steven Kwan led off with a walk and later scored via a Jose Ramirez sacrifice fly to give Cleveland a 1-0 lead.
