Tech will pay Leftwich up to $229,294 after withholding taxes to satisfy his buyout at Texas State , his previous employer, and up to $20,000 for moving expenses. Leftwich is making $147,727 for the partial year of Dec. 9 through Jan. 31.
Should Tech fire Leftwich without cause, it would owe him 70% of the remaining value of the deal, offset by any earnings he had within the term of the contract. Should Leftwich initiate his own departure before the last game of the 2027 season, he or his future employer would owe Tech 35% of the remaining value of the deal. Tech agreed to waive Leftwich's buyout if he leaves to become a head coach in the NCAA or a coordinator in the NFL.
