WHERE'S THE FOCUS?: What does Texas Tech basketball need out of the transfer portal for 2024-25 season?
The lefty was ranked a 3-star recruit by 247Sports out of Midwest City High School in Oklahoma City. During his postgrad year playing for Barnwell, Overton led Sunrise Christian in points and steals.
Overton started and played all 35 games for the Bulldogs, going for 20 points or more three times. He had a quiet close to his freshman campaign though, scoring in single digits each of Drake's last four games, including the NCAA Tournament loss to Washington State — which was Drake's only game against a power-conference opponent this season.

This is the first domino to fall for head coach Grant McCasland, with many more to come. He would become the eighth player on the roster next season, the sixth on scholarship, with seven more spots to be filled.

Overton is a younger prospect that, should all go according to plan, could become a focal point for Texas Tech beyond next year. He'll be a true sophomore during the 2024-25 season.
Depth was a concern for the Red Raiders throughout McCasland's first year at the helm. Adding Overton, a bigger guard at 6-foot-5, provides size that Tech lacked in the backcourt. Interchangeability between Overton, Kerwin Walton (also 6-5) plus Darrion Williams and Devan Cambridge (both 6-6) could be a key to a theoretical small-ball lineup, which Tech utilized when Cambridge was healthy last season.
The transfer portal closes May 1. Last year, Tech didn't finalize its roster until early July.
